Recently, I’ve been massively failing and floundering with trading. I haven’t been as consistent, as disciplined, or as focused. I got one payout in July and it was followed by about six weeks of massively blowing accounts, gambling, oversizing, overtrading. There was one main reason for this. That reason? Outcome dependence. I was not only only focused on the outcome, but I depended on it. I felt like if I didn’t achieve a payout, and a certain amount daily that I was not only a failure but my sense of survival was not being met. This is a very dangerous psychology because it leads to misery, depression, and just an overall feeling of downtrodeness.

It’s very important to stick to your rules. You have to stick to your rules as if your life depended on it. Being dependent on the outcome makes you weak. It makes you a slave to results, the crowd, an employer, and all things external. I snapped out of that tilted state and I’m back on track now. I’m more focused on the process of things than the outcome. The outcome can be whatever it is, but the process needs to stay fairly consistent barring a few tweaks here and there. A book I read in the past that reminds me of this is Atomic Habits. The book preaches things like process vs outcome orientation and things of that nature. The compound effect is another topic. The compound effect is very important because as long as you have a good process the outcome will take care of itself. It will just take time.

Short post but just wanted to talk real quickly about dependence, process, discipline and consistency. In short, always focus on the process over the outcome.
